10 Countries with the Highest Rate of Obesity in Citizens
Posted in Education, Health on July 15th, 2010At times it may seem that the USA is the only fat country in the world. However there are many other countries out there that have an obesity problem, and something must be done before this epidemic gets out of control.
1.United States: There’s a good reason why the people of this country are so fat. With huge portions and poor eating habits, it only makes sense that the USA is on the list of those countries that happen to have the most obese citizens in its populations.
2.Barbados: Many don’t think of a tropical island paradise as a place where you would find a high population of obese people. However when it comes to Barbados, they do happen to have a rather high percentage of those people who are so overweight that they fit into the obese category.
3.Argentina: Some may say that it’s because of the amazing food choices, but whatever the reason this country makes the list. They have a rather high percentage of obese citizens and therefore are a country that really needs to be more health conscious overall.
4.Nauru: You may have never heard of the country, but they make the top of the list. It is believed that over 94% of the citizens in this country happen to be overweight. Therefore it is safe to say that most of the population needs to pay closer attention to what and how they eat.
5.Micronesia: They are the top of the list as over 91% of the population is overweight and in the obese category. Though this is a smaller country and perhaps lesser known than its counterparts, it is nonetheless a very fat country indeed.
6.Samoa: Some would argue that the high rate of obesity in smaller and more remote countries such as these is due to a lack of education. Citizens may not have access to the information they need to make good healthy choices and therefore they are overweight as a result of it.
7.Greece: Another country that many would argue is overall considered to be obese due to excellent cooking. Though there is plenty of healthy fare in this country, the portions may be bigger than in other European countries. Whatever the reason, this is high on the list.
8.Egypt: Many wouldn’t necessarily think of this country as a fat one, but it is. With the great majority of its citizens being at least overweight, there is an epidemic here that must
be controlled.
9.New Zealand: This other end of the world seems to just speak of beauty, but obesity is a real problem here. There is a high population of citizens that fit the obese category and therefore more careful attention must be paid to the problem soon.
10.Mexico: As it borders the United States, there may be some carry over with the huge portions that lead to this epidemic. There is a high percentage of overweight and obese people and this shows no signs of stopping.
Though obesity is most certainly in the spotlight, something must be done soon to fix the problem. This is a small look into what countries around the world are facing in this epidemic.
